Red-headed Pine Sawfly - Neodiprion lecontei
Bear, New Castle County, Delaware, USA
July 3, 2009
Size: ~ 14 mm
These larvae are from the same Red Pine and the same group as Photo#312643 and Photo#312644. I watched them grow from 4 mm to 14 mm and shortly after this photo was taken they all disappeared. I am hoping to find out what they turn into.

Diprionidae
Neodiprion lecontei. The redheaded pine sawfly.

Moved from Ants, Bees, Wasps and Sawflies. I think Diprionidae is safe to say, but I'm no expert. It occurs to me that these could be red-headed pine sawflies

I was thinking the same
I saw Tom Murry's Red-headed Pine Sawfly and these match pretty well but my photo is out of focus towards the bottom so I didn't want to rush to an ID because of it.
