Diceroprocta apache (?)
LIKELY Diceroprocta apache!
There is considerable confusion regarding Diceroprocta apache and Diceroprocta semicincta - esp. with regards to the pronotal collar being solid, as seen here, or divided (anterior margin light and the posterion margin dark).
Unfortunately the answer to separating these species is controversial and best described as follows.
In the Sonoran region, Diceroprocta apache populations are well defined by the "divided pronotal collar" trait; however, northward this character fails. Generally, D. apache in Maricopa Co., Gila Co., & northward varies from those to the south. The pronotal trait character shifts to the solid collar in D. apache. Additionally, there are two possible color forms (dark as seen here, or reddish - typically found further north into Utah and north/west into Calif.). Both the dark and reddish form have solid bone-colored pronotal collars, a trait usually used to identify D. semicincta!
Perhaps among the best characters to use are the opercula (not visible here), followed by eye color. The consensus regarding D. apache is that they are most often characterized by reddish-brown eyes - seen here. In contrast, D. semicincta and D. cinctifera usu. have dark eyes.
