dolomedes tenebrosus? - Dolomedes scriptus
chengawatana st forest, Minnesota, USA
July 4, 2009
This picture was taken on the banks of the northern st. Croix river late at night on July the fourth of this year. This was first fishing spider I have ever seen, though, that night I saw several of this same species. This was the largest. I am sorry I don't have more accurate measurements, but with legs outstretched it was approx the size of the palm of my hand, which is about 4 inches wide.

Dolomedes tenebrosus
Ryan - beautiful specimen, indeed! I discovered the same species (tenebrosus) in June last year in Minnehaha creek, just below the falls. At the time, the falls had be shut off at Lake Minnetonka so I was able to wander over the rocks. I found mine sitting on a log over the trickling water like a finicky cat - waiting for prey. She was about 4 inches long as well. I have a great picture (from my cell phone) but I'm still trying to figure out how to post...
