Pogonioefferia pogonias - Efferia pogonias - female

Pogonioefferia pogonias - Efferia pogonias - Female
Mayflower, Camp Robinson WDA, Faulkner County, Arkansas, USA
September 29, 2005
Size: 26mm
The female of Pogonioefferia pogonias. Note the dark color in browns. Subtle dark squares over the back of the abdominal segments. Unlike some Efferia species the female of this species does not have a flattened sword ovipostior but has a blunt tapering one like a Proctacanthus. She tends to oviposit in the soil whereas the sword-bearing females often lay on flower heads and in plant stems.
