There are three species of the genus
Mimorista in America north of Mexico. .

Powell & Opler (2009) listed the forewing length as 15.5-19.5 mm.

"Distinctive" forewing pattern with the California specimens being smaller and less colorful.

Mimorista trimaculalis from Texas is similar; in need of distinguishing information. In his
1913 description of subcostalis, Hampson does not distinguish or even mention
trimaculalis from Texas. The original descriptions of the two species are essentially interchangeable.
Range
California to Nevada, Colorado and Texas.

Season
Adults are most often reported from April to October.

Powell & Opler (2009) reported the larval host plant and immature stages are unknown.

Type locality: USA, California, Colusa Co.
