Ichneumon wasp (Gelinae)? - Messatoporus discoidalis - Epping, Rockingham County, New Hampshire, USA July 26, 2009 Size: About 0.7 cm long.
This stunning wasp was attracted to my backdoor light one night. It is my understanding that Ichneumon wasps are difficult to ID and there are so many different species of them. Could someone help me out with a genus/species or let me know if this is a Gelinae subfamily? I compared my pic with this one from BugGuide: http://bugguide.net/node/view/187983/bgimage
It is a wooded deciduous/coniferous lot with a nearby river. Thanks much.
