Western Black Widow Web - Latrodectus hesperus

Western Black Widow Web - Latrodectus hesperus
Antelope Island, Davis County, Utah, USA
September 23, 2009
I had been watching this widow through the summer and then one day when I went out to check on her there was a huge funnel web protruding out from the corner of the window (about 12 inches). I thought the area had been taken over by a funnel weaver, but it's still the widow's web. The picture doesn't show the depth but it is an impressive web that protrudes out at an angle from the widow. The funnel opening is about the size of a silver dollar. I'd never seen them in that kind of web before. You can see her (barely) back in the corner.
