brown orb weaver 1 - Neoscona crucifera

brown orb weaver 1 - Neoscona crucifera
Prattville, Autauga County, Alabama, USA
September 28, 2009
Size: up to 2 inches
Large orb weaving spider, seems to hide after sun is up about 2 hours, prefers to build web where people walk - in front of large window where we keep dog brushes on ledge or between fence and front of car where we walk to get to car or above garbage can where we have to store or remove garbage bags. Have several large, bright colored garden spiders and a couple of "white crab" spiders (with HUGE webs) but only one of this fellow. I bet it's from the Araneidaes, with over 50 kinds, to many to name! I appreciate the time though.
