Still a caterpillar actually.
Some type of slug caterpillar (family Limacodidae). My guess is the Crowned slug caterpillar (Isa textula), you can check the guide page here and see what you think.

Outstanding! Thank you for the extremely quick ID on this fellow. I had gone back the next day to see if it was still there..and I'm now guessing, it being a caterpillar, it had already moved on.
Great to know a name now.
