neat photo
The only time I've seen mantis wings like that is when they're in flight. Neat photo! I too am unsure of the species. Maybe a Stagmomantis californica ? Somebody may recognize the species by the wing pattern.

This is a mantis in a defensive pose (they look frightening but are completely harmless). It's hard to tell which species from this picture, I'm thinking probably Chinese.

sorry, NatalieMcNear but it's wings are pinkish on the top. chinese mantises don't have pinkish wings.

Mediterranean mantis.
This is a great shot of an Iris oratoria. I can 'never' get one to do this! :-)
