mystery larvae?

mystery larvae?
Nelson County, Virginia, USA
September 29, 2009
Size: 3/4" - 1"
These things have recently been spotted racing around the basement and in the house late at night. I don't see them during the day.

They move quickly, and roll up into a spiral when disturbed.

Would like to know what they are, so I know how best to deal with them!

looks like a Soldier Beetle Larva
of some type to me. I've seen a couple different varieties lately, including something that looked like this one. Maybe somebody else will have more info. and ideas about it.

indeed it seems so
...and this page explains why I'm suddenly seeing them in the house:

Fortunately they aren't a pest, so I'll just escort them back outside as I find them. :-)

Thank you!
