...and usually easy to photograph because they will sort of get 'startled' when you shine a flashlight on them and hold still for a bit. It just takes some good 'ol night hunting with the Mag-Lite. But I've only found males (I don't think the females wander too far from their hole/lair).

I find most of my bugs at night, too. I go to the porch lights about an hour a day (maybe 100 pix). Very relaxing at the end of the day. I guess it is lazy to wait for them to come to me, maybe I should look around, but I'm out to 12:30 or 1:00 as it is (wonder if the neighbors notice!), then there is sorting and IDing. I need more time to post but I get tired at 2:00. Come on hard frost!

This is probably correct. The only other thing it could be is pugnax,
and the season strongly favors its being pacificus. That's precisely
the week when King County male pacificus wander.
