Scorpionfly - Panorpa nuptialis - female

Scorpionfly - Panorpa nuptialis - Female
Tulsa Zoo, Tulsa County, Oklahoma, USA
September 30, 2009
I found this female scorpionfly late in the day. I knew the creature immediately and even its gender, but I'm not certain on species. Based on wing pattern my guess is Panorpa nuptialis. Any experts out there?

"experts out there" (at least Dr. Webb)...
...decline species identification from any images not showing male bulbs -- trust me, i tried...

Interesting...
Everything I've been reading in the scorpionfly entries suggests that the wings seem to be the way to identify the different species. This is the first one I've ever photographed, so I know absolutely zero about Panorpa. Thanks for the info.

"wings seem to be the way to identify" -- that was my idea, too
at least, wing pattern provided reliable sp. IDs back in the old country -- yet, again, the southern US fauna seems to be more speciose and apparently includes groups of spp. w/similar patterns.
Pls move the series to the genus page anyway.
