Lady with green eyes (and purple ocelli) - Netelia - female

Lady with green eyes (and purple ocelli) - Netelia - Female
Marlton, Burlington County, New Jersey, USA
September 29, 2009
For some reason I thought that these wasps couldn't sting, hmmm can turkeys fly - I forget. Anyway I saw this one and thought it would be easy to just pinch the wings and take it inside to photograph. (I didn't have my camera with me and I'm lazy)
1) They contort quite well even when you have the wings pinched overhead.
2) They sting about 3 times a second, at least for the the first 2 seconds (guess who quit first)
3) Luckily this one's sting was like a tiny tack poking me (or a little spark) but either it couldn't penetrate my skin or it didn't have venom.
We found a more non-intrusive way to take the pictures, I liked the green eyes and purple ocelli.
More detail available if needed.
