Nymphs and white fly-like thing - Corythucha marmorata

Nymphs and white fly-like thing - Corythucha marmorata
Elkins Park, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, USA
September 26, 2009
On a sunflower leaf underside, the brown things appear to be (leaf/tree hopper) nymphs (not sure, so if anyone can help with that ID...), but what is the white thing? It seemed to be watching/protecting the nymphs, or maybe just happened to be near them? Never seen one before and couldn't locate it in the guide because I didn't know what to look for. It was very small, maybe 1-2 cm
