heterocerid - Heterocerus brunneus

heterocerid - Heterocerus brunneus
San Leandro, Alameda County, California, USA
August 28, 2009
Size: 4.5mm
Came to a UV light on a very hot night in my backyard. Surprised me to see a "mud-loving" beetle in my backyard -- most of the land around me is dry, paved, or built on. The San Leandro Creek is half a mile away though, and unlike many creeks in the East Bay it has not been moved underground to accommodate more humans.
