Predatory mite of apple and grape - Amblyseius andersonii (Chant) - Phytoseiidae - Amblyseius andersoni

Predatory mite of apple and grape - Amblyseius andersonii (Chant) - Phytoseiidae - Amblyseius andersoni
State College, Centre County, Pennsylvania, USA
July 1, 2007
Size: less than 1 mm
This is important and effective predator of tetranychid (spider mites) and eriophyid (rust) mites on apple and grape along both coasts of the US and in southern Europe. In this orchard, they were feeding on spider mite eggs and adult apple rust mites. The long setae on the tip of the abdomen separate it from other phytoseiid predators in eastern apple orchards. Best keys are in Chant 1959.
