Sandalus porosus LeConte - Sandalus randyi - female

Sandalus porosus LeConte - Sandalus randyi - Female
Martin County, Florida, USA
August 8, 2009
Size: 15mm
This isn't the other two widespread eastern species, so I assume it's porosus.

Moved from Sandalus porosus.

Sandalus
Leconte's description of S. porosus (based on 3 females from New Mexico and the Arkansas River), states that the thorax has straight sides (as in S. niger) and is densely punctured, with some larger punctures intermixed. This all corresponds with your specimen. He goes on to state that the species is unique among Nearctic Sandalus in having the elytra concave and narrowly margined at the base. I'm not sure what exactly he means by this or if this matches your specimen.

S. randyi
And six months after I make this comment this Floridian species is described.
