Pink Katydid - Amblycorypha oblongifolia

Pink Katydid - Amblycorypha oblongifolia
Harms Woods Forest Preserve, Glenview, Cook County, Illinois, USA
October 1, 2005
Size: ~5cm
Add Chicago to the home of the pink katydids. The volunteers were out seed collecting at Harms Woods and were startled by this beauty on a woodland sunflower in a wet swale. Interestingly, this was not ten yards from we found our
pink Derbid and our pink Acanalonia last month! Is there something in the water??

amazing
That is unbelievable. Is this the first record of a pink katydid and leafhoppers, or have you heard of this before? Thanks for sharing your pics, they are great.

Article about pink katydids

You are what you EAT?:-)
Seriously, I know that as autumn progresses, and chlorophyl wanes while other pigments become evident, the insects that feed on them tend to take on that color. The pink katydid phenomenon is something different, though, I'm pretty sure.
