Blister Beetle - Meloidae > Nemognatha sp. - Nemognatha punctulata

Blister Beetle - Meloidae > Nemognatha sp. - Nemognatha punctulata
Middleburg, Clay County, Florida, USA
October 4, 2009
Size: 10.85mm
Collected on Goldenrod. This one: Tarsi 5-5-4 & black; Femora/tibiae yellow w/blk joints.
Claws bifid, pectinate and divaricate. Proboscis - extending to back of mesocoxa. Three
species in FL; (N. nemorensis/piazata/punctulata). Of the three, my new guess would be
N. punctulata based on the black tarsi, the elytra apparently being quite variable. I am
pleased to leave at Genus, or even Family level. Many thanks.

Ah,
I had also looked at Zonitis but I'm not really familiar with the genera in Meloidae.

How about Nemognatha
in the Meloidae? Long proboscis provides a clue.

Meloidae
Many thanks. My first one. Have had no exposure with this group, the
proboscis was confusing for sure. Now having read through Am Beetles
Vol II on the family things make more sense. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Thats what I was thinking too.
Definitely a Meloid though, not positive on Nemognatha but that'd be my guess.
