Maybe some kind of Tussock?
Perhaps the Hickory Tussock? I'm confused by the taxonomy with those though, why are they not under Lymantriidae? Blah, I'll go ask on the forums.

Hickory Tussock indeed
Common names are so frustrating sometimes...this is certainly the Hickory Tussock Moth, which is really a tiger moth :-) The black patches down the back are distinctive.
