Indian Stick Insect? - Carausius morosus - female

Indian Stick Insect? - Carausius morosus - Female
Oakland, Alameda County, California, USA
October 4, 2009
Size: 8 cm
Found this on the side of my house in Oakland, CA. Not sure what it was doing next to my mail box, but there it was. My guess here is Carausius morosus, given the colorful armpits, but I don't have a key, and haven't seen many reports of it this far north. Can anyone confirm?

Thanks for catching this
I was apparently sleeping that day when I moved this to Pseudosermyle. The red on the front leg should have made it obvious (as should have mention of the correct name in the post). They are similar, but - well - not a good enough excuse. :0)

no problem :)
I tried to get most of the unidentified phasmids to family at least. The only ones left at order are 4 that I think are Caurasius (but I'm not sure how to distinguish them from Pseudosermyle other than the red on the front legs), and 1 that looks like Timema but is way out of range for them.

thanks for following up!
So is this the only species that would have red armpits in the Bay Area, or maybe even in North America?
