Eastern-tailed Blue - Cupido comyntas - female

Eastern-tailed Blue - Cupido comyntas - Female
Wheaton, Brookside Gardens, Montgomery County, Maryland, USA
September 3, 2009
Size: 3/4 inch wingspan
A very tiny butterfly. My old "Audubon Society Guide to North American Butterflies" has the species as Everes comyntas as does the more recent "NWL Federation Field Guide to Insects...." (2007). You can see from the slightly open wings that the top open wing color ,is dark gray, not blue, indicating a female. I'm sure they are the same butterfly and there has been a change in nomenclature.
