Cali beetle dbase lists 5 spp., of which i know, and can rule out, three [all non-native]

I agree, the three non-native spp.
look very different.
I'm not really familiar with these, but
C. schaefferi
has blue elytra and dark legs, so probably
extorris
. I'll put this on my list of things to look at.
