Unusual grasshopper species - Morsea tamalpaisensis - Female
Cupertino Hills, inland chapparal habitat, altitude 500ft., Santa Clara County, California, USA
October 18, 2009
Size: body length ~ 20mm
I know this is a grasshopper, but it's unlike one I've ever seen--particularly in the length of the body and the perpendicular aspect of the jumping legs.

This is a species of "monkey grasshopper" in the family Eumasticidae (if I'm spelling it right). Not commonly seen, might be an adult female?
