Nice image of a male Empress
but the caterpillar is difficult to make out clearly enough. I may be aiming you in the wrong direction, but it looks to me like a Noctuid moth, perhaps in the group that includes most "Cutworms" and "Armyworms". Pierid Butterfly caterpillars (Whites and Sulphurs), and a number of other groups can look a bit like this too.
