Sorry but not sure where to post this....
Ok .. I am deathly afraid of spiders. And i was out in my garage smokin and my girlfriend was like ya might wanna get away from the car there is a spider .. So she got a shoe and i killed it .. Then i got to thinkin about it and i have never seen an orange spider before .. I been searchin the net about it and it has led me to this site. It seems to be the exact spider that is shown in this thread. Can ya tell me if this is poisonous or harmfull in anyway at all? I live in Martinsville Indiana

Eddie

P.S.
Sorry for killin it to the bug lovers out there ... but it aint gonna be me to die from a spider lol..
when i did kill it there was black stuff coming out of it. Is this normal ?

Hi!
We haven't made a ID on it yet. But I don't think it's a dangerous spider (although aggressive-that doesn't make it dangerous.) The only ones's that are really "dangerous" are the Black Widow and Brown Recluse in US. Although some people can have bad allergic reactions to bites and there are alot of variables in spiders bites and people's reactions to them.

BTW-There are alot of orange spiders out there, just not too many that look like this one. Too bad you didn't get photo before you dispatched it. (keep in mind-spiders are good for the environment)

So far as the black stuff-I have no idea.

You might want to try posting more about this in the forum. ^_^

This spider reminds me of
nursery web spiders (Pisaurina mira) I have encountered in several parts of FL. P. mira pattern and coloration is variable, so it is a possibility.

I've seen colour variations of those
But I've never seen on like this. BTW-it seems to be a sight hunter.

It only makes a small web to sit in-when it bothers to use it-but when I dropped that fly-it SAW it.

It maybe a Nursery Web Spider-I'm still considering that a viable idea.

Here's a few I've seen: http://pawild.reptilians.org/show_photo.php?photo_id=913

http://pawild.reptilians.org/show_photo.php?photo_id=266

that's assuming I identified the the lighter one correctly. I looked it up but recently I found looking htings up in books is NOT helpful...sigh...
