Explanation of Names
Specific epithet from Latin maiestas (Italian maestoso) meaning "majestically."

Wingspan 78-98 mm. (7)
Identification
Forewing has arcing dark line. Reniform spot large and brown. Also brown shading along am. and pm. lines.
Range
Heppner (2003) reported the range to include New York to Florida, Illinois to Texas. (8)
Season
July-October in much of range. April-November in South.
Life Cycle
