Bombus? - Bombus - female

Bombus? - Bombus - Female
NW of Lyons, Boulder County, Colorado, USA
September 28, 2009
Size: BL~18 mm
We saw this shaggy white-haired bee visiting Broom Senecio (Senecio spartioides--Asteraceae) in front of our house. In shape and size it looks like a male Bombus, but I've not seen any with such shaggy white fur. We do have lots of Bumble bees here, though. I am also posting a second similar bee on the same oasis plant.

Female bombus
Thanks for the identification to female and possibly B. centralis, Dr. Ascher. As you suggest, it may be an extreme form. It's not one we have seen before. Your help is greatly appreciated.
