Common/White
It's either Common Checkered-skipper or White Checkered-skipper, but they're generally not considered distinguishable from each other in the field (as far as I know?). Kaufman guide says both fly at least most of the year. I ruled out Desert by range and Tropical by wing pattern. Pretty shot.

I'm not making an ID
But it said the males of the White Checkered Skipper have complete black checks on the wing fringes typically which seems pretty consistent with this. Just a thought...

complete checks
I didn't know about that characteristic till you mentioned it. Thanks for the tip. It's mentioned on BOMONA, although the pictures of both species on that site show complete checks.

Yeah...
Looking through some of our pictures here on bugguide, it seems the same way.

....
Looks like a Common Checkered-Skipper - Pyrgus communis but wait for an expert.

Suggestion
Do a map search for your county at butterfliesandmoths.org to see which Checkered-Skippers are there. With luck, it'll be just this one, or possibly two total. If the latter, check flight times and habitats to eliminate candidates.
