Ranchman's tiger moth - Arctia virginalis

Ranchman's tiger moth - Arctia virginalis
Kaslo S Rd., ~ 2.7 km SW of Mirror Lake, Central Kootenay, British Columbia, Canada
June 7, 2009
The population at this location went through a low in the spring of 2009 (possibly due to harsh winter conditions). Very few larvae found (8 larvae in 2 hours of searching). Two larvae were parasitised by tachinid larvae, three were infected with a virus and turned to mush and only three successfully pupated. Out of these three pupae two were deformed and died and only one produced an adult (a dark form female).
