Flit fly - Oscinellinae - Olcella

Flit fly - Oscinellinae - Olcella
Baiting Hollow, Suffolk County, New York, USA
October 4, 2009
Size: about 2 - 3 mm
This small fly was walking around on the goldenrod flowers, when a crab spider slowly rose up in front of him.
I think the spider saw me and turned away from the fly.
The fly found himself hugging a spider leg and quickly flew away.
Spider here:

Moved
Moved from Oscinellinae.

Olcella
Looks very much like Olcella based on the characters I can see, and the habits (associating with a spider) are certainly consistent with Olcella.

Moved
Moved from Flies. cool shot. several species of chloropids and milichiids act like jackals on spider, reduviid, and other predator kills

Thanks Keith, for Id and info.
