Elfin? - Callophrys gryneus

Elfin? - Callophrys gryneus
Jack Creek campground, Jefferson County, Oregon, USA
June 29, 2005
We found this little butterfly nectaring as we hiked along Jack Creek. We're curious to know if it's an Elfin although the quality may not be good enough for people to tell.

Moved from Juniper Hairstreak.

A Hairstreak
I think I see a tail. It's a Cedar/Juniper Hairstreak complex. Not only can't 'they' decide on a species, it seems that the genus name is in dispute too! Take your choice between Mitoura and Callophrys and between rosneri, gryneus, silva, and barryi. Now, isn't that helpful!!

Well
I don't think it is quite that confusing. In June, in Oregon, with tails and the purple sheen, this is Callophrys gryneus nelsoni.
