Our dog found this on our patio in the late evening. My wife says it's a Tarantula, but I don't think it's brown and hairy enough. It looks like a giant version of a very common spider I throw out of my house all the time but I have never seen one this large.

I agree.
I agree with Lynette, and will add that it is a male. The kink in the front leg might help ID it to genus at least. Male spiders of all kinds wander in search of mates at this time of year.
