Although the wing has a "significant bow" to the costal margin, suggestive of linnei, this characteristic can be variable in members of the pruinosus group, canicularis group and linnei group and should not be used alone in diagnosis to species level.



Note the dorsal abdominal aspect has brown maculations (a T. winnemana character, but subject to variation). The ventral abdominal aspect lacks the black mid-line stripe along the abdomen typical of linnei (the lack of black is another winnemana character!).

The cicada in this pic. is known as T. winnemana (T. pruinosus ssp. winnemana to some).

These cicadas are widely distributed along the eastern US from Pennsylvania (s. NY??) south into Georgia (n. FL?)- westward to the Appalachians and possibly adj. areas west of the mountains.

The specimen you have pictured is not too unusual, I have seen several that were characterized by reduced black pigmentation.
