Unknown Insect - Hypselonotus punctiventris

Unknown Insect - Hypselonotus punctiventris
Montgomery County Preserve, Montgomery County, Texas, USA
October 31, 2009
Size: 1/4-1/2 inch
This guy was sitting on a flowering bush inside the preserve, right outside the office. Don't really have any idea what he might be, so am interested in anything that can be provided! Thanks in advance!

Unknown Insect: How about..
John and Jane,

Thanks very much for the ID on this guy! I saw him at the Montgomery County Preserve in Spring, very near to I45, this past Saturday. I have a few other insects and caterpillars I'm trying to ID that were taken there, as well.

Thanks again!
Sam

You were quite lucky
that the side view was recognizable in this case. Please always truy to get a straight dorsal view.

I'm aware of that....
Margarethe,

Yes, I'm aware of that. However, it wasn't really a possibility without trampling on the little garden area at the preserve. He was too far into the middle of the little patch for me to get over top of him. As it was, this was quite a crop of the original image and I had to lean in quite a bit for it.

My Apologies
Margarethe,

I owe you an apology. My response to you last night may have come across as a bit snippy and impolite. So, I wanted to apologize to you and I hope you accept it as sincere.

Thanks for the comment and help!
Sam
