Cecidomyiidae, stem galls - Neolasioptera desmodii

Cecidomyiidae, stem galls - Neolasioptera desmodii
Heritage Valley, Allamakee County, Iowa, USA
September 21, 2009
Desmodium glutinosum stem galls. In "The Plant-Feeding Gall Midges of North America", page 192-193, R. Gagne says: Desmodium (tick-trefoil), swollen stem...Neolasioptera desmodii (Felt). He lists several Desmodium spp. as hosts but does not list Desmodium glutinosum.

Moved
Moved from ID Request. I'm surprised this is only BugGuide's second species for this large genus. Stem swellings in herbaceous (and some woody) plants often turn out to be Neolasioptera galls.
