Size: monarch size only thinner

on my car cover wadded up on my porch. good size about as long as a monarch but a bit thinner. I placed it on a hop tree and it stayed for about 1/2 hour. Then dropped to the ground looking for better food I guess. It was a sunny day at noon. I had not seen this one before. And couldn't find a photo in my books that matched. Lots of snouts, queens, and sulfurs flying around at this time

Sorry, changing our mind. After examining a number of images we now believe this is a very dark octomaculata. Androloma wouldn't have that bright white spot and would have visible orange feet and venter.

Looks to me like a species of

Alypia - a Spotted Forester Moth. It is definitely a moth in the subfamily Agaristinae. Most of the species I know are very fond of plants in the Grape Family. This one is very similar to yours, but may not be the same species:
