black and orange Jumping Spider - Phidippus audax
This is an immature Phidippus audax; the orange markings will turn white when the spider matures.

immature
Thanks for that info. I've seen lots of white immature ones as well. Interesting.

black widow mimic?
Nice find. There is speculation on
Reddit
(totally peer-reviewed, I'm sure!) that this form mimics Black Widows. Hard to prove, but it makes sense.

Found this in Oregon
We found one of these -- or at least, a Phidippus with green chelicerae and three orange spots -- in Portland, Oregon, last weekend. The info suggests orange-spotted variants are unusual outside of Florida. Did we find P. audax or something else? Does anybody have suggestions? Thanks.

I'm not sure
I have seen the orange variation here in WA too, but recently found out that's somewhat unusual.
