Tinea multistriatella Dietz, 1905
Size
8 to 10 mm long. Wingspan 16 to 17 mm.
Identification
Head: Top of head has long haired (scaled) white with brown mixed in at center. Front of face is whitish, hair flattened. Palpi long, folded; yellowish-white, underside brown.
Antenna: Short, about half the wing length; somewhat thickened, brown on top, paler on underside. Segment 1 white.
Thorax: White, intermixed with brown.
Wings: White speckled with brown and with dark brown longitudinal lines and blocks. Fringe checkered, matching wing color; brown dots intermixed and a brown streak or stripe about mid-way on long fringe. Hindwings pale grayish, brown speckled.
Legs: Legs whitish, speckled with brown. Feet striped brown and white.
Abdomen: Yellowish-brown on top side, reddish-yellow on underside.
Range
Eastern half of U.S., Oklahoma; Ontario & Quebec
Season
April, May; again in August.
Life Cycle
Two generations per year. Bred from bracket fungi on beech stumps.
