Bugs
By Dorling Kindersley Publishing Staff
Andrew Macintyre , 2012
A good book with common bugs and some cool facts about them.
I would say an age range from 6-10.
Note this is not a field guide.

Monster Bugs
By Lucille Recht Penner
Random House , 1996
A good book for young kids to read about bugs.
Note this is not a field guide.

Wikipedia
Wikipedia is growing to be a good information source for insects and their like. I'm thinking having this "book" will make it easier to reference citations on guide pages, much like BOLD Systems and Moth Photographer Group

Soil Biology Guide
By Daniel Dindal, ed.
Wiley-Interscience, 1990
This valuable tome contains wonderfully illustrated taxonomic keys and biological synopses for a large range of terrestrial and soil-dwelling organisms oft overlooked (both scientifically and literally); covering not only insects but bacteria, annelids, gastropods, tardigrades, arachnids, myriapods, isopods, etc. with a focus on North America. With a total of over 50 contributing authors, each of the 43 chapters covers a different group of organisms.
