Cercyon limbatus (Mannerheim)
is a much better fit than
C. matthewsi
. The latter species is much darker than this and has more defined lateral pale markings.

i never suggested matthewsi, just stated that i can't exclude it
...because i had no information on it whatsoever in my handy sources, but
the syntype of
limbatus
(Mnnh.)
looks too dull and bicolored...

ah well....
I guess I will find out what you mean when I work through this and the rest of my other unIDed hydro~s during the next few weeks. I really like the abundance of figures in the text though...

good luck -- i'm looking forward to see the results
i took a peek into the 26-spp.
Cercyon
key for the Pacif. part of Russia -- it turns out, just body outline may be highly diagnostic; when you add color pattern and well-defined puncture/microsculpture features, it turns out, you only need to check genitalia very occasionally

Leiodidae
Looks like a leiodid of some kind; doesn't look like a sphaeridine hydrophilid to me, but not familiar with Canada's fauna.

I hope I've never spelled it that way...
I tend to make lots of weird errors while typing.

perform a BG search...
...on both 'definately' and 'definatly' [less popular, i'll admit] -- just to get an idea

btw, Natalie always uses the 'haha' version; makes me think...

Well thats how it sounds when I laugh
I don't make a "hehe" sound. I have a definite "HA" in my laugh. Plus I hate to use lol.

oh i see... most illuminating, thanx!
the sounds i make are way too weird to be adequately rendered by any combination of the English letters... which is all the more troubling that i, too, hate the above-mentioned acronym.
