Latridiidae - Melanophthalma

Latridiidae - Melanophthalma
Iowa, USA
Size: 2 mm
Diptera larvae collected at Whiterock, Guthrie County, 24-May-2008, eating spores of Uromyces aritriphylli, a rust on Jack in the Pulpit, Arisaema triphyllum. More rust covered leaves were added from Ames, Story County, on 3-Jun-2008. On 13-Jun-2008 I found a few non-Diptera pupae in the container and moved them to their own container. They emerged as adult Latridiidae 20-Jun-2008. Might they be Melanophthalma sp.
