Even with the pretty orange markings, it was nearly invisible on the fall forest floor.

If this is correct, yours would seem to be BugGuide's first record from Missouri.

aha!
The moth was found right outside of a spring that comes out of the rock like a cave. Here's a picture of the spring - the moth was found about 3 feet from the left edge of the picture.
