a Syrphid of some kind i think
I look through the family for a bit, but didn't find it yet. Somebody else might know right off the bat.

I thought
that such a distinctive pattern would be easy to find, but after combing through the Syrphids I'm coming up blank. I found one superficially similar individual in Dasysyrphus, but it wasn't really that close. I concede defeat.

It's an odd one, Kerry.
Suggest you move your post to Syrphids where, hopefully, it will attract expert attention. (This one may take some time to ID, as some fly guys are here infrequently.)

Nice find!

Thanks
Thanks to all for your attention to my photo! I will move it to Syrphidae as suggested and hope for further analysis. :) I really appreciate your time.

Hi Kerry, That's Sericomy
Hi Kerry,

That's Sericomyia lata. The colour pattern is really distinctive. Nice shot!
