this Texas Parks and Wildlife Department site
. The image here fits the description and none of the other common Pagurids in the area fit. I can't yet rule out a rare, obscure species but I'm fairly confident of this ID.

Definitely Paguridae
I strongly suspect
Pagurus longicarpus
but have been unable to find a definitive list of local
Pagurus
species (or a key to them). Of the most common Woods Hole area hermits, at least,
P. longicarpus
is the only possibility. (It isn't
P. annulipes
or
P. pollicaris
.)
