I don't know the ID beyond family, so any help would be appreciated.

Female - most probably Northern Paper Wasp
First, because Isle Royale is very near the northernmost limit of the genus: only P. fuscatus is likely to occur there.
Second, because this one female matches very well with individuals from Ontario and Wisconsin.

Paper wasp.
This is a Polistes paper wasp. Not certain of species, but pretty sure it is NOT P. exclamans, though it superficially resembles that species:-)
