Sorry for the very belated reply! I believe the long basal white patch (sometimes divided) has a strong tendency toward a bilobed pattern of sorts at the distal end. I don't know if this is infallible, but it's what I go by. I think the black also tends to be browner/less deep.

Check the apex of the second blob

The middle or second white blob is usually indented at the apex and sometimes completely divided (longitudinally) on confusa. (near the center of the wings)

After checking the BOLD pages, I noticed that Haploa lecontei is quite variable and so I tried to put several examples of that on the info page.
