Anthophylax cyaneus - Female
Weld - Tumbledown Mountain, Franklin County, Maine, USA

Size: 15 mm
Dozens of specimens seen crawling on ground.

habitat?
I had never seen this beetle in the woods behind my house in Maine and had the impression that they must be rare. That is mostly second growth with a good mix of conifers and hardwoods but dominated by red maple, white pine, balsam fir, and white ash. There was a nice image of this beetle from New Brunswick by Tony Thomas. That image, as well as his entire bugguide identity seemed to have vanished (what happened? - please come back!). In any event, I remember he made a comment that he felt this beetle was associated with beech woods. This beetle was found in a sub-montane habitat with sugar maple, paper birch, yellow birch, and lots of beech as well. Many specimens were seen crawling on the ground. None were seen on flowers which I think is a bit unusual for a lepturine.
