Size: approx 40 mm
This colorful fall caterpillar has me stumped. Any ideas?

Thanks, Bob. Somehow I missed that when flipping through Wagner. It was even feeding on Crown Beard which Wagner mentions.

Moved to a new guide page
I found a matching image on Denison University's website. I believe the spelling should be
Basilodes
.
I don't have Wagner's book yet - Sphinx or Bob, can you check the taxonomy and see if I've got this in the right place? Any more info on this species - alternate hosts?

I'll leave the taxonomy to......
the expert, Bob. I didn't see any error in the spelling,
Basilodes
is correct. I've looked on the web and my books but can't find reference to any alternate host plants. They all mention wingstem (
Verbesina sp.
)and nothing else.
